Fight Back Against Childhood Tooth Decay with Pediatric Fillings and Crowns

According to the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, the most serious childhood illness is not the flu or even the common cold. It’s tooth decay. At Adaven Childhood Dentistry, we can help you fight back against tooth decay and protect your child’s smile.

What Are Pediatric Fillings and Crowns?

If left unchecked, tooth decay can progress from plaque and tarter buildup to cavities (called caries). Once cavities form to a certain point, the only way to fix them is with a filling or other restoration. At our Henderson office, we provide the best dental care possible for children, including pediatric fillings and crowns.

The process begins with a thorough cleaning to remove plaque and tartar from the teeth and gumline. Then we’ll conduct anassessment to identify current cavities and any areas that might be problematic in the future. Next, we’ll use a tooth-colored composite resin to fill in cavities and seal them. This is a critical step because if they were left unfilled, cavities can continue to grow, causing further damage, pain, and potentially leading to infection in the gums and bone (abscess).

In cases of significant tooth damage, we can offer pediatric crowns. These are made of either stainless steel ortooth-colored porcelain and are designed to protect an entire tooth. They’re great solutions in situations where multiple fillings might be needed.

Are Pediatric Fillings and Crowns Truly Needed?

Because your child will eventually lose their baby teeth, you may wonder if fillings and crowns are really necessary. Yes, they are. Without proper treatment, these issues can worsen, leading to potentially dangerous infections in the gum and jawbone and sever pain just like any other adult tooth.

Concerned that your child might need pediatric fillings? Want to learn more about pediatric crowns? Make an appointment today. We’d love to discuss your child’s options!
