Sedation Dentistry for Children

Calm Anxiety and Handle Special Needs with Sedation Dentistry for Children

Dental care is critical, even before your child get their permanent teeth. However, anxiety and special needs often lead to delays in getting regular cleanings and exams. Sedation dentistry for children can help! At Adaven Children’s Dentistry, our goal is to provide your child with the best possible oral care and to guide them into healthy oral health habits as they age. Sedation dentistry for children allows us to combat anxiety and serve children with special needs.

What Is Sedation Dentistry for Children?

Sedation dentistry doesn’t have to mean “going to sleep”. This is particularly true when it comes to children. Instead, we provide a mild sedative orally to help manage anxiety or to manage special needs. Sedation dentistry for children is particularly well-suited if:

  • Your child’s gag reflex is very strong.
  • Your child struggles with dental anxiety (or anxiety of any type).
  • Your child has special needs.
  • Your child requires multiple dental procedures performed at
    the same appointment.

What Types of Medications Are Used in Sedation Dentistry for Children?

At Adaven Children’s Dentistry, we use safe, effective sedatives. Oral medications and nitrous oxide (laughing gas) are our preferred methods. Some patients may only need one type, but some children benefit from a mild combination of both. We’ll assess your child’s needs and behavior on arrival and speak to you about the best path forward. We always prefer your child to be as comfortable as possible during their treatment. We do offer each method of sedation including: Laughing gas, oral conscious sedation with laughing gas, or even general anesthesia.

Sedation dentistry for children can help anxious children overcome their fear of the dentist and build familiarity and comfort. It can also help children with special needs receive the oral care they require. Contact us today to learn more or to schedule an appointment.
