Why Children May Need Teeth Removed

Under normal circumstances, most children will lose their baby teeth by about the age of 13. However, there may be a need for pediatric tooth extraction before that point. Quite a few circumstances can mean that a tooth needs to come out before it’s quite ready or when a baby tooth needs a little help to come out at the right time, including:

Over-retained baby teeth (baby teeth that won’t fall out even
though adult teeth are moving into position)
Cracked or otherwise damaged baby teeth
Infection under or around the tooth (abscesses in the root
or gum)
Creating space for adult teeth to erupt properly

How Does Pediatric Tooth Extraction Work?

The process involves a local anesthetic to numb the area around the tooth and then gently loosen the baby tooth to make removal quick and easy. In most cases laughing gas us used to calm your child. For very nervous children sedation may be necessary.
