Everyone wants the best for their child, and deciding when to take him or her to the pediatric dentist
for the first time is important. Not only does it introduce your child to the dentist’s office, but it will teach your child to develop good dental hygiene habits—keeping their teeth perfectly healthy throughout their life.
Over the first two and a half years of your baby’s life, primary teeth will begin to erupt. Your child is born with all of his or her teeth, and it is over these first two years that they will gradually become visible. It is recommended that as soon as you notice teeth erupting, you take your child to the kid dentist for the first time!
It is generally recommended that your child should have visited the dentist by the age of one or within six months of the first tooth erupting.
Your First Visit to the Kid Dentist
Your first visit to a pediatric dentist serves a couple of purposes. First of all, it will be your child’s first experience in the dentist’s chair. This will be a recurring event during your child’s early years, so it’s important that he or she starts early.
Secondly, the first visit shows you how you can ensure your child’s teeth are kept clean and healthy. After the first tooth appears, decay can begin – and while this first set of teeth will ultimately be lost, it’s important to maintain their health.
Tooth decay in your child’s first set of teeth not only sets a bad precedent, but it can damage speech development and even cause problems for the emergence of their adult teeth. If a primary tooth is lost early due to decay, then secondary teeth can emerge in abnormal positions.
Start Your Journey Right with a Pediatric Dentist
By visiting the pediatric dentist early, you can learn everything you need to know, and ensure that your child’s teeth are healthy from the moment they begin emerging.
